2006 Sevier Street Project

Changing the face of an entire city block with one project.

RCHFH recently successfully completed The Sevier Street Project, the renovation of an entire city block in downtown Murfreesboro.  Alongside seven qualified and hardworking Partner Families, hundreds of volunteers, and many financial sponsors, RCHFH built seven new Habitat homes on the 500 block of East Sevier where many substandard homes once stood.

Here are some pictures of what the houses used to look like...

Quotes from Sevier Street sponsors about their experience with the project are below:

State Farm Insurance

"The Sevier Street project has been a great opportunity for State Farm to support community development in Murfreesboro.  Habitat for Humanity is such a great organization, and we’re very fortunate to have Tom Muller leading the volunteer aspect of the program.  Our thanks go out to all the volunteers for the Sevier Street Project!”

G. Ron Nichols, Vice President-Operations

Reeves-Sain

“Being a part of a unique year, with 7 homes being constructed at once, we have had the opportunity to offer significant impact to our community. Habitat for Humanity is such a phenomenal organization, and partnering with them has enabled us to learn how to be effective volunteers and leaders in the community. Our employees have been able to work together and strengthen relationships, which add so much to our company’s team spirit.”

                                                                                 Lori Smith, VP of Marketing

Pinnacle Bank

“The ability to come up with down payment and closing costs is usually one of the biggest stumbling blocks as families try to buy their first home.  We are pleased to be able to help remove that stumbling block and partner with Habitat to help these eight families achieve the American dream,”

                                                                                 Bill Jones, Pinnacle area executive

Operation Inasmuch

“I have been involved in Habitat for many years, starting in Virginia before I moved to Murfreesboro.  I have been very impressed with the Rutherford County Habitat, and the dedication shown to revitalizing an entire community, not just the process of building houses.   Each time I work on a Habitat house, it is an opportunity for me to live out my calling from God.”

Sean Prince – First Baptist Church

Junior League of Murfreesboro

“For fifteen years, the members of the Junior League of Murfreesboro have had a strong desire and a deep commitment to improve the lives of the women and children of Rutherford County.  The Sevier Street Project has provided our membership with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of a deserving family.  The personal rewards our members have experienced while working alongside the recipient family and other volunteers are innumerable.  Seeing this project is a tangible reminder that we make a difference in our community.  It has been a pleasure to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.”

Stones River Homes

"Stones River Homes is extremely proud to partner with Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity.  The services provided by Habitat for the community are immeasurable.  Their commitment to assisting well-deserving citizens in obtaining affordable housing is what makes America such a wonderful place to raise a family.  We should never forget how lucky we are to live in America and Rutherford County in particular.  That is why Stones River Homes gives back to the community by making a donation to Habitat with the closing of every home we sell."
